Hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural glycosaminoglycan with viscoelastic properties, is a major component of synovial fluid and the extracellular matrix of the joint cartilage and plays key roles in maintaining synovial fluid viscosity and the bio-mechanical integrity of healthy cartilage. Intra-articular administration of exogenous HA has therefore been used to successfully improve the viscoelastic properties of the joint to improve lubrication, modulate inflammation and modify the catabolic micro-environment.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Kinesio Taping
 
 
Kinesiology tape is a thin, flexible tape that was developed to aid muscle movement and enhance athletic performance. It is often used to relieve pain, improve blood flow, activate muscles, reduce swelling and inflammation and provide support to joints and muscles. The elasticity, or stretchiness, of kinesiology tape allows for movement. This makes it different from the more rigid rehabilitation tape or support adhesives that have no stretch to them. Kinesio Tape is safe enough for a baby’s sensitive skin, and gentle enough for aging individuals, flexible enough for rehabilitation, durable enough to support working muscle, joint or ligament and strong enough for athletes at any level. In cases when the tape is applied by practitioners the tape provides optimized stimulation based on space, movement, and cooling which allows the body’s natural healing power is able to do its work.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Active Soft Tissues Mobilization
 
 
Active Release Techniques are soft tissue methods that focus on relieving tissue tension via the removal of fibrosis/adhesions which can develop in tissues as a result of overload due to repetitive use. These disorders may lead to muscular weakness, numbness, aching, tingling and burning sensations. Can I exercise after a joint injection?

We recommend no strenuous activity for 24 hours post injection, then activity will be as tolerated by the patient.

How often can I get a joint injection?

Every 4-6 months

What is the difference between a steroid and gel joint injection?

Steroid injections contain a short and long-acting anesthetic in addition to the steroid to reduce pain and inflammation for a period of time.

The gel injections contain Hyaluronic acid and are given in 3 weekly injections to the elbows, shoulders and knees. The gel injections are used as a second line defense when patients are no longer getting relief from steroid injections.

Do you offer joint injections for ankles, wrists or hips?

Not at this time.

How do I remove Kinesio taping?

Very carefully by pulling up from one end, do not rub the tape off as it can cause skin irritation.
